Đồng Đăng Station is located in the northern part of Đồng Đăng town, Cao Lộc district, Lạng Sơn province. On April 24, 1889, the French government decided to build the first railway line in Bắc Kỳ. By April 8, 1902, Đồng Đăng Station was established as the terminal point of the Hà Nội - Mục Nam Quan route. On January 1, 1908, with an additional 4 km of railway from Đồng Đăng to Nam Quan put into operation, Đồng Đăng Station became a two-way operational station.
Between 1925 and 1930, Đồng Đăng Station served as a secret reception point for cadres of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth League who were engaged in covert activities. During the resistance war against the French, the Hà Nội - Nam Quan railway line was paralyzed, and the stations were abandoned until the long resistance war against French colonial invaders was victoriously concluded.
On February 28, 1955, the first train to resume service traveled from Yên Viên Station to Đồng Đăng Station and then on to Bằng Tường Station (China). The locomotive, adorned with the national flags of Vietnam and China, along with portraits of President Hồ Chí Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong, was warmly welcomed by the people of both nations.
Having witnessed many historical ups and downs, after 1979, the station was progressively modernized to better serve the people's travel needs. On February 14, 1996, Đồng Đăng Station was inaugurated, restoring international intermodal railway service between Vietnam and China. In 2004, the Đồng Đăng border station was officially recognized as a Class I international intermodal station.
Notably, on February 25, 2019, Đồng Đăng Station had the honor of being the first stop on the journey of Chairman Kim Jong Un of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to Vietnam to attend the 2nd US-DPRK Summit and make an official friendly visit to Vietnam. In addition to its prominent role in transport operations, in recent years, Đồng Đăng Station has also become a fascinating destination attracting both domestic and international tourists.
