Phu Yen – Quy Nhon Journey: A Coastal Love Song and Unforgettable Moments with Central Vietnam's Land and People
Delicious and affordable cuisine, wild and majestic landscapes, and friendly locals... these were the things that "surprised" this travel-loving girl on her first visit to Phu Yen and Quy Nhon.
Four days and three nights was the precious time Nguyễn Thị Việt Thương dedicated to exploring the beautiful lands of Phu Yen and Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh province).

Travelers embracing the majestic natural beauty.
Việt Thương shared that she chose Phu Yen and Quy Nhon for this trip because with summer arriving, it would be a "disappointment to Mother Nature" not to visit the beach. Central Vietnam is renowned for its long stretches of white sandy beaches and crystal-clear blue waters, making Phu Yen – Quy Nhon the perfect choice for a summer getaway.
“Besides,” Việt Thương added, “I watched many videos about these two places, and almost every clip praised everything from the scenery and people to the food. So, I wanted to see for myself if it was as wonderful as everyone reviewed.”
After spending some time experiencing these two destinations, Việt Thương shared that three things "surprised" this travel enthusiast on her first visit.
“First off, the food in Phu Yen – Quy Nhon is incredibly delicious and affordable. From bánh canh hẹ (chive noodle soup), cơm gà (chicken rice), bánh bèo (savory steamed rice cakes), to bánh bột lọc (tapioca dumplings)... every dish was tasty, and prices started from just 15,000 VND. Phu Yen – Quy Nhon has also preserved its wild and magnificent natural beauty. I couldn't believe how clear and blue the sea water was, especially at Bai Mon and Ky Co Beach. It's truly fortunate that these places haven't been heavily impacted by human activity, allowing them to retain their pristine beauty.
Finally, the local people are incredibly friendly and lovely. I really felt their warmth and enthusiasm every time I needed to ask for directions or seek help,” Việt Thương expressed.

Admiring the beautiful natural scenery.
After traveling from Saigon to Phu Yen by bus, she chose Bai Xep as her first stop on a journey to discover the land famously known as "yellow flowers on green grass." Bai Xep gained widespread fame from the film "Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass," captivating countless travelers and opening their hearts to the beautiful natural landscape. A stop at Bai Xep felt like gazing upon a magnificent natural painting, vibrant with many colors and evoking unforgettable emotions.
Bidding farewell to Bai Xep, Việt Thương and her friends visited Ong Cop Wooden Bridge, experiencing the unique thrill of riding across Vietnam's longest wooden bridge. This long, straight wooden bridge, stretching amidst the sky and land, offered a poetic and romantic scene. Standing in the middle of the bridge, travelers could spread their arms wide, breathe in the fresh air, and savor a moment of pure freedom – truly a fascinating experience.
They continued their journey to Mang Lang Church, then explored Ghenh Da Dia (The Disc-Shaped Reef) and Ganh Den Lighthouse. In the evening, the travelers made sure to drive past Nghinh Phong Tower, which was beautifully illuminated with a captivating array of colors.
The next day, Việt Thương conquered Mui Dien (Cape Dien). The road to Mui Dien winds along Phu Yen's most beautiful coastal route, and riding a motorbike along this path was truly an incredible experience. Travelers stopped at Bai Mon, Vung Ro Bay, the No-Number Ship historical site, the coastal road, and Xom Ro fishing village.
She then continued her journey from Phu Yen to Quy Nhon. “Once there,” the girl from Quang Ngai shared, “I visited Ky Co and Eo Gio. I have to admit, Vietnamese beaches are just incredibly beautiful; I didn't want to leave! In the evening, I drove around Quy Nhon, stopping at food districts and the main square, which was a lot of fun...”
In Quy Nhon, everyone made sure to dedicate a full day to a tour of Cu Lao Xanh Island. This tour started at 7 AM, and by 3 PM, travelers were back on the mainland, with enough time to freshen up before catching their 6 PM bus back to Saigon.

Travelers capturing unforgettable moments.
According to Việt Thương, among her four days exploring Phu Yen – Quy Nhon, her favorite spot was Mui Dien Lighthouse, one of the places where you can witness the first rays of dawn on mainland Vietnam.
“When I arrived, I didn't expect the path up to Mui Dien to be quite challenging. If you choose to walk, it's over 1km and a bit steep, but those hot moments were totally worth it for the wild and magnificent scenery of Mui Dien. I never imagined Mui Dien would be so stunning in real life. For me, Mui Dien is truly a masterpiece gifted by nature to Phu Yen,” Việt Thương reflected.
Thương's most memorable moments from this trip were probably the chance encounters with the incredibly friendly locals in Quy Nhon. If she had to vote for the friendliest people, this traveler would definitely give her top vote to Quy Nhon.
“Right from the bus station, I met a taxi driver who didn't hesitate to recommend places to visit and eat in the city, even though we only had a 15-minute ride with him. Then there was the kind boatman who took us to Ky Co Beach; we went at 1 PM, so there weren't enough people for a full boat (usually he waits for 10), but he insisted we get on, saying he'd take the two of us early so we could enjoy more time there.
And notably, the young tour guides on Cu Lao Xanh Island – they were just high school students, doing guiding as a part-time job. They were always enthusiastic, proactive, and incredibly supportive during our time on the island. The warmth and hospitality of everyone in Quy Nhon left a truly memorable impression on me,” Việt Thương shared.

With summer's arrival, Phu Yen – Quy Nhon blossoms as a favorite destination for many travelers.
Sharing more about her passion for travel, she revealed that her travel philosophy is “budget-friendly travel, focusing on experiences,” which is why she often opts for independent trips. She and her best friend plan their itineraries together and rent motorbikes, making it easy and convenient to get around and discover all the beautiful sights at their chosen destinations.
